MI vs LSG: Whatever We Are Trying Is Not Coming Off - Rohit Sharma
Mumbai Indians suffered their 6th straight loss of the season. They lost to Lucknow Super Giants by 18 runs. Rohit Sharma, their captain is a totally disappointed man as he in the post-match presentation said that whatever his team is trying is not coming off.
This means that MI are now almost certainly out of the race for the playoffs.
Players Need To Pull Up Their Socks: Rohit Sharma
The five-time champions haven’t found anything got going for themselves. They have struggled with their bowling as well as batting. They have not chased well and they have not defended well.
They have looked out of sorts with their team selection as well. LSG was the first team against which they played their 4 overseas players together in the 6 games they have played so far.
But despite chopping and changing their XI they have not found the right combination. Youngsters like Dewald Brevis and Tilkak Varma have performed but the senior players of the side have failed the team on various occasions.
Against Lucknow too, despite going in with an extra bowler, MI conceded 199 runs. While batting wise as well, Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma both failed.
“Every game we play is an opportunity, we try and think what our best playing XI which is best suited for the particular conditions and particular team. We lost 6 games now, we are trying to understand what our right combination is, but it all depends on the opposition that we play. When you lose games it is very easy to point out that changes are being made but we try and go with our best eleven”, Rohit Sharma said about the playing XI.
On the way his team approached the chase, Rohit said: “Hard to point out one particular situation, when you are chasing a total we need big partnerships, something we failed to do today.”
The bowling yet again let MI down and Rohit wasn’t pleased, “They bat quite deep and it is important to hold your key bowlers towards the back end. We always try and keep Bumrah for the back end and it didn’t seem to work out. He bowled pretty well but the others just need to pull up their socks a little bit”, Sharma said in the presentation.
Rohit himself hasn’t been scoring runs for the franchise when asked about that he said, “I’m trying to prepare myself in the way I prepare for every game, that is no different. It’s not coming off, I take the full responsibility of not putting the team in the situation of what they expect from me. I back myself to go out there and enjoy the game and do what I have been doing all these years. It’s important to keep looking forward.”
Mumbai have now lost 6 games and with only 8 games left in the season, they can look to play carefree cricket and might hand out opportunities to other youngsters as well.
