MI vs RR: Aakash Chopra Points Out That Mumbai Indians' Bowling Is Weak
MI vs RR: Mumbai Indians lost their 2nd consecutive game in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League on Saturday. After their loss to Delhi Capitals in the first game, they failed to chase down 194 against Rajasthan Royals to register yet another loss in the season. This has led former India opener, Aakash Chopra, to question MI’s bowling.
MI’s bowlers did well against Delhi Capitals as at one point they reduced them to 89-5. Capitals in any case were able to chase down the target with vital contributions from their lower middle order. MI’s bowlers did not bowl well at the death. Daniel Sams and Jasprit Bumrah went for plenty in the first game.
Mumbai Indians Bowling Dependent Solely on Jasprit Bumrah: Aakash Chopra
In the 2nd game, while Bumrah made a good comeback by picking up 3 wickets, and giving away little runs, the other MI bowlers couldn’t support him.
MI conceded 193 runs against Rajasthan Royals with Murugan Ashwin going at more than 10 runs per over and Basil Thampi not completing his full quota of overs. He was taken for 25 runs in one over by Jos Butter.
“When they (MI) play you realize that the team is weak. The bowling is extremely weak and it is not going to change because this is the best that they have. Jasprit Bumrah on one side and the rest of the bowling on the other side. Jasprit Bumrah was economical, three wickets as well“, said Chopra in his YouTube video, who is currently suffering from Covid.
Chopra further added: “Tymal Mills also picked up three wickets. He was slightly expensive but still okay. It seems Daniel Sams is scoring a half-century in every match. Murugan Ashwin was good in the last match, was alright in this match. The might is not being seen at all in the bowling. You don’t get Basil Thampi to bowl his full quota of overs. Kieron Pollard picks up a wicket but also concedes 25 runs in an over.”
Mumbai Indians went heavily at Jofra Archer in the mega auctions and got him as well, but he wouldn’t be part of the squad for this season. MI also got Riley Meredith and Fabian Allen in the auction, only time will tell if they would make any changes to their side considering Tim David with the bat and Daniel Sams with the ball haven’t been effective at all.
