Sunrisers Hyderabad was playing the most important game of the season as they needed to win the game to stay alive in the competition. They did just that and Kane Williamson was finally a happy man after a string of losses.

They were put to bat first by Mumbai Indians. There was a change at the top of the order for SRH as Priyam Garg and Abhishek Sharma opened the batting.

They didn’t get a good start but after Sharma’s dismissal, Rahul Tripathi and Garg added 78 runs for the 2nd wicket.

Once Garg got out, Nicholas Pooran and Tripathi carried on with the same momentum until Pooran was dismissed courtesy of a brilliant catch by Mayank Markande.

SRH then lost a bit of their momentum and managed 193 runs. It looked at one point as if they would score around 210 runs but MI pulled things back a little in the end.

MI started their chase well as they raced to 95 runs with no loss but then Umran Malik picked up 3 quick wickets which put MI on the backfoot.

Then came the onslaught from Tim David who scored 46 runs off 18 deliveries and brought MI right back in the game. But he got run out on the last ball of the 18th over. Bhuvneshwar Kumar then bowled a wicket maiden and sealed the game for SRH. SRH eventually won the game by 3 runs to keep themselves alive in the competition.

After the game, Williamson said, ” Nice to break the streak. But also nice to win the wrestle. Had a few games where momentum wasn’t on our side and we couldn’t wrestle it back. All in all a very good performance and a lot of learning to come out of it.”

“Tripathi is a seriously special player, he comes out and takes the momentum away. Umran always bowls quick, which is obviously strength and a weapon for our side. Got an amazing skill set which if he can channel, he can turn a match as we saw. Priyam is a seriously talented cricketer, great that he could get the opportunity today, he’s one of those players we’re going to see a lot more of, got a really good head on his shoulders, a lot of potential but a lot of skill as well. Our death bowling has been a strength of ours and Bhuvi is one of the top death bowlers of the tournament. His contribution today and to bowl, a maiden is an amazing contribution and match-winning moment really”. he added.

SRH needs to win their last game anyhow to remain in contention for a last 4 finish.
