MS Dhoni To Play For CSK In IPL 2022; Ravindra Jadeja Becomes The First Choice Retention

Chennai Super Kings have named all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as the first-choice player in their retention list as veteran skipper MS Dhoni will play for IPL 2022.

There were speculations over Dhoni continuing in the IPL amid the retention policy and keeping the player’s age in mind.

According to BCCI’s retention policy, the salary of each player in case a team retains four players – Rs 16 crore for Player 1, Rs 12 crore for Player 2, Rs 8 crore for Player 3 and Rs 6 crore for Player 4.

This means a total of Rs 42 crore will be deducted from the team’s purse before they enter the mega auction of IPL 2022.

MS Dhoni named second choice player in CSK’s retention list for IPL 2022

Dhoni has been retained as the second choice player in CSK’s retention list with England all-rounder Moeen Ali and opener Ruturaj Gaikwad being the other two retentions.

Dhoni is the charming luck of the Yellow Army is not going anywhere as speculations had earlier suggested. Dhoni has won four titles with the franchise and is also the longest-serving captain of any team in the history of IPL. 

Will MS Dhoni only play for IPL 2022?

Dhoni’s charisma and sharpness in decision-making make him the most wanted player for any team, irrespective of his age.

There were some reports that suggested CSK will keep Dhoni for the next three seasons but as of now, it seems like the ‘captain cool’ will play only for IPL 2022.

Ruturaj had an unforgettable season where he scored 635 runs from 16 innings to hold the Orange Cap and also smashed a whirlwind century against Rajasthan Royals.

Jadeja has scored 2386 runs and picked 127 wickets in his IPL career and has been with CSK for eight years. Jadeja could be looked as the potential leader for the franchise after Dhoni retires from the game. 

Moeen brought stability in CSK’s batting order in IPL 2021, one of the major aspects in the team’s massive turnaround after a poor campaign in IPL 2020. 

The England all-rounder scored 357 runs from 15 innings at the strike rate of 137.30 in IPL 2021 and also returned with six wickets with the ball.

CSK are the holders of IPL 2021 after defeating Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs in the final. This was their fourth title and they are just one behind their rivals Mumbai Indians.

3) Moeen Ali (8 cr)

4) Ruturaj Gaikwad (6 cr)
