Multan Sultans Head Coach Andy Flower Set To Participate In IPL 2022 Mega Auction, Leaves PSL 2022 Midway

Legendary Zimbabwe cricketer Andy Flower, who is the head coach of Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), has left the league midway to travel to India to take part in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction.

The former England head coach Andy Flower, who was part of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) coaching staff in the IPL 2020 and 2021, has been appointed as the head coach of the new Lucknow Super Giants team for the upcoming season of the cash-rich league. He will be spending at least two days in India as the IPL 2022 mega auction is all set to take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru.

The 2022 edition of the IPL will be a 10 team tournament as two new teams – Ahmedabad owned by CVC Capital and Lucknow owned by Sanjiv Goenka-owned RPSG Group– have joined the cash-rich league.

Notably, CVC Capital Partners successfully bid with Rs 5,625 crores for Ahmedabad and RPSG Group picked Lucknow as their home base with a winning bid of Rs 7090 crores.

Also, Lucknow Super Giants have revealed their draft picks, they included KL Rahul (Rs 17 crore), Marcus Stoinis (Rs 9.2 crore), and Ravi Bishnoi (Rs 4 crore) in the squad. India white-ball vice-captain KL Rahul is all set to lead the team in the marquee T20 league.

Flower has said that he is grateful to get the opportunity to become the head coach of the new Lucknow franchise and he is excited to join the group.

“I am incredibly excited to be joining the new Lucknow franchise and I am very grateful for the opportunity. The passion for cricket in India is unrivaled and it is a real privilege to lead an IPL franchise and I am looking forward to working closely with Dr Goenka and the Lucknow team,” said Andy Flower in a statement.

Meanwhile, Sultans’ media department confirmed that Flower will be available virtually for the team. He is set to return to Pakistan and join the Mohammad Rizwan-led side on February 13.
