Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians couldn’t put an end to their losing streak in their opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the four-wicket loss to Delhi Capitals extended their record to 10 seasons in a row. The last time Mumbai Indians won their first game of IPL was against arch-rivals CSK in IPL 2012.
However, MI’s reputation is to win titles and just like every season they won’t mind losing their first game in this edition as well. The Rohit Sharma-led side had the command of the game vs DC for the major part of the time only for Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav’s splendorous batting performance turned the course of the match.

Mumbai Indians retained Rohit Sharma along with West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard, ace pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav. MI went in full-throttle for Jharkhand player Ishan Kishan and fixed the deal for a whopping price of INR 15.25 crore, the highest bid of the IPL 2022 auction.
MI also purchased England speedster Jofra Archer for INR 8 crore despite being aware of the player’s unavailability due to injury for this season.
