Mumbai Indians are the only team this season who are eluded of a win. The 5-time IPL champions have played 6 matches and lost all of them. One more loss will result in early elimination from the playoffs race. Skipper Rohit Sharma is completely out of touch and his bowlers including pacer Jasprit Bumrah have been under the pump in almost every game.

Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are two of the most successful teams in IPL history, however, this season has been nothing but a nightmare for the two teams. MI is yet to get going on the points table, on the other hand, CSK has managed only a solitary win from 6 games so far. Both teams are in desperate need of a win.

For Mumbai Indians, big names like Kieron Pollard, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ishan Kishan have failed miserably. Dewald Brevis from the last two games, and the evergreen Suryakumar Yadav have been the only positives for a struggling Mumbai Indians outfit so far.

Record IPL champions Mumbai Indians occupy the last 10th place in the points table as the only team without registering a single point. Their net run-rate reads –1.048, and only a miracle can take them through to the playoffs now, with eight out of eight wins needed.

MI suffered an 18-run loss in their last fixture against Lucknow Super Giants. Their bowling was all over the place yet again, barring Jasprit Bumrah as they conceded as much as 199/4, with LSG skipper KL Rahul scoring a magnificent century for Lucknow. Chasing the target, MI openers failed yet again while Proteas star Dewald Brevis continued to impress with his strokeplay, smashing 31 off 13.

Suryakumar Yadav scored 37 off 27, while Kieron Pollard (25 off 14) and Jaydev Unadkat (14 off 6) kept MI’s hopes alive but MI eventually fell short.

Meanwhile, CSK is coming off a three-wicket defeat at the hands of Gujarat Titans in a closely contested battle. Batting first, CSK posted 169/5 on the back of Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 73 off 48 and a 31-ball 46 by Ambati Rayudu. CSK had reduced the Hardik Pandya-less side to 48/4 in eight overs. However, they did not have answers to David Miller’s (94* off 51) and Rashid Khan’s (40 off 21) onslaught as they lost the game on the penultimate ball.

Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings Match Preview- Riley Meredith, And Mayank Markande May Get A Nod For MI, Dwaine Pretorius, And Mitchell Santner May Play For CSK

Changes aplenty are expected for Mumbai Indians. We might see Aussie pacer Riley Meredith getting a nod ahead of England pacer Tymal Mills in this game. Also, there is a chance for spinner Mayank Markande to make a return to MI’s XI after 4 years at the expense of Murugan Ashwin who has been good in bits and pieces.

CSK is desperately missing the services of their most expensive buy of this season pacer Deepak Chahar. Deepak Chahar won’t be available for the entire IPL 2022 season due to a back injury and this news has dented CSK’s bowling attack for good. Ravindra Jadeja-led CSK needs to find a perfect combination in the bowling unit if they want to go deep in the tournament.

England spin all-rounder Moeen Ali’s form is a big concern. Moeen Ali has been ineffective throughout the season. CSK spent 8 Crores in retaining the English all-rounder, but Moeen Ali is yet to reap dividends. Mitchell Santner is another spin bowling all-rounder in the ranks and a lackluster form of Moeen Ali might tempt the team management to go for Mitchell Santner.

England pacer Chris Jordan went for plenty in the last game. He was the main culprit in CSK’s defeat against GT in the last game. If Adam Milne is fit to feature, the Kiwi express pacer might replace the Englishman in the playing eleven. Otherwise, Proteas pacer Dwaine Pretorius, who didn’t do anything wrong to face the ax from the eleven for Chris Jordan might replace the latter.
