Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra raised questions over Mayank Agarwal’s captaincy for not bowling Kagiso Rabada his full quota of overs against Delhi Capitals on Monday.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) lost to the Capitals by 17 runs after their batting order collapsed in the middle. Wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma kept the fight on with his 34-ball 44 but fell short of support from the other end.
PBKS vs DC: Delhi Capitals stunned Punjab batters
Shardul Thakur led the Capitals mission to defend the moderate target with four wickets for 36 runs from four overs. Shardul was complemented by the spin bowlers – Axar Patel (2/14) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/14) in the middle overs.
PBKS bowlers did a great job to restrict DC at 159/7 as Liam Livingstone picked figures 3/27 and Arshdeep Singh registered 3/37. Kagiso Rabada got the crucial wicket of Mitchell Marsh, who was cruising the Capitals to a sublime score, to finish at 1/24 from three overs.
I don’t understand what captaincy you do: Aakash Chopra to Mayank Agarwal
Chopra wasn’t happy with Agrwal bowling Rabada just three overs and was left baffled with the 31-year-old’s captaincy.
“Kagiso Rabada was expensive at the start but later he didn’t bowl his fourth over. What captaincy you do, I don’t understand. The pitch was turning a little, agree Liam Livingstone bowled his overs but not good enough,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
“Liam Livingstone picked up three wickets, Rahul Chahar gave 19 runs in his four overs but there was no wicket in his account. Arshdeep picked up three wickets, Arshdeep was brilliant. He dismissed Sarfaraz [Khan] at the start and later he came back to dismiss Lalit Yadav and [Shardul] Thakur,” he added.
Capitals will play their final league stage match against Mumbai Indians on Saturday (May 21) in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, PBKS will face Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final match of the league stage at the Wankhede stadium.
