Former Indian pace bowler RP Singh feels England batter Liam Livingstone needs to play more match-winning knocks for Punjab Kings in their remaining fixtures of IPL 2022.
Livingstone has strengthened PBKS’ middle order this season with his ability to strike hard and escalate the team’s score.
The Lancashire player has amassed 385 runs in 12 innings with the help of four fifty-plus scores and an impressive strike rate of 180.75. Livingstone has hammered 29 sixes off his willow so far in the tournament and is only behind Andre Russell (32) and Jos Buttler (37) for most sixes this season.
Liam Livingstone hit the longest six of IPL 2022
Livingstone scored 30 off 10 balls against Gujarat Titans as he pummelled Mohammed Shami for 28 runs in an over – three sixes and a couple of fours.
The England batter recorded a 117m six, which is the longest six in terms of distance in this season thus far.
Livingstone’s 42-ball 70 against Royal Challengers Bangalore powered PBKS to a commendable 209/9 as the Mayank Agarwal-led side eventually won by 54 runs.
Liam Livingstone is an expert at scoring sixes: RP Singh
RP Singh acknowledged Livingstone’s six-hitting spree but also pointed out the number of times the England batter helped his side win games.
“He is an expert at scoring sixes. He hits huge sixes and is batting pretty well also. But, it has to be seen how many matches he has won for his side. I think he has only been able to convert a good innings into something big and secure the win on one occasion,” RP Singh said on Cricbuzz.
Punjab Kings have won six games and lost as many in their topsy-turvy IPL 2022 campaign and are currently slotted in the seventh place on the table with 12 points and a net run rate (NRR) of +0.023.
PBKS will take on Delhi Capitals on Monday in Navi Mumbai to extend their playoffs race as the winner will strengthen its chances for the top four spot.
