Shubman Gill backed up his 84 against Delhi Capitals with 96 runs off 59 balls against Punjab Kings’ here on Friday at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.

He looked solid from the beginning itself as he smashed Vaibhav Arora for consecutive boundaries in the first over itself.

Shubman Gill Moves To 2nd Spot On the Orange Cap List

Shubman Gill played his best innings in the Indian Premier League since making his debut in 2018 for Kolkata Knight Riders, as he scored a fluent 96 runs off 59 balls and helped his team Gujarat Titans make it 3 wins in a row.

Gill, it seems has hit a purple patch with the bat as he scored a brilliant 84 runs against Delhi Capitals in the Titans’ last game on what seemed to be a difficult pitch to bat on.

After losing an early wicket in their quest for a steep target of 190, Gill needed to bat through the innings and that too at a good strike rate. Gill did just that as he faced minimal dot balls and found boundaries at will.

In the past, Gill has been criticised for batting with a lower strike rate and trying to go too hard at times. He did the same in GT’s first game but has since curbed that approach.

The new approach seems to be working for him as he has now scored two back to back half-centuries which have put him 2nd on the orange cap list.

Gill in the post-match presentation after the game against Punjab Kings’ said: “It is important to keep the scoreboard ticking. It is important to hit those gaps because this outfield is rapid. It is just about execution. It was just one of those days where I was hitting the ball well and finding the gaps as well. I am hitting the ball hard, trust me.”

“I am doing my level best to hit it hard, it might not look that way. As an opener, I have to bat through the innings, so that it is easier for the big-hitters to hit it in the end. Instead of not thinking in the nets, I try and work and reduce my dot balls as much as possible.”

The Gujarat franchise would hope that Gill continues this top form going ahead in the tournament as they are quite well placed in the points table at the moment.
