Indian leg-spinner Rahul Chahar admitted that playing against Royal Challengers (Bangalore) has always been a challenging task for him in the Indian Premier League (IPL) over the years. Chahar has claimed 43 wickets from 42 IPL games at an economy rate of 7.45 since he made his debut in IPL 2017 for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant (RPSG).
From his 43 wickets, Chahar has only managed to pick three of them against RCB and has conceded 181 runs in a total of six matches against them, the most runs he has given against a single opponent so far. Chahar was released by five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2022 auction.
I am really looking forward to play against RCB: Rahul Chahar
The 22-year-old spinner, who was roped in by Punjab Kings in IPL 2022 auction for INR 5.25 crore, is likely to play his first match for his new franchise against RCB on March 27. Chahar said he is looking forward to the encounter against the Faf du Plessis-led side.
“I am really looking forward to play against RCB as they have always been a little challenging for me. This year also they have some world-class batters like Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, and Glenn Maxwell, so it will be really exciting and challenging as well,” Chahar told news agency ANI.
It is a privilege to play under Anil Kumble: Rahul Chahar
Chahar expressed his joy of playing under Punjab Kings head coach Anil Kumble whom he has been admiring since his childhood period. The Rajasthan bowler is excited to learn the tricks of spin bowling from the former Indian captain.
“It is a privilege to play under Anil sir. Ever since I was a child, I always looked up to him as he is the highest wicket-taker for India. As a bowler, I love to play Test matches and always wanted to learn from him. Now finally I have got the opportunity to work under him and learn from his experience,” Chahar said.
Punjab Kings will play their first match of IPL 2022 against RCB at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on March 27.
