Punjab Kings (PBKS) have been the most unachieved side in the IPL over the years. Despite managing to build good squads every season, they have failed to win the IPL title. 2014 remains their best season in the IPL as they managed to reach the final but lost out to KKR.

The Kings kick off their IPL 2022 campaign against RCB on March 27 at the DY Patil stadium in Navi Mumbai. Punjab are placed in group B alongside CSK, RCB, SRH and Gujarat Titans. Their squad looks far better this season having covered all the bases.

The IPL 2022 will be a 10-team affair with as many as 74 matches to be played across 65 days. Wankhede and DY Patil Stadium will host 20 matches each while the Brabourne stadium in Mumbai and MCA Stadium in Pune will play hosts to 15 games each. The final will be played on May 29. Ahead of Punjab Kings’ opening game against RCB, we take a look at three players who can win the Purple Cap for the franchise in IPL 2022.

Rabada previously won the Purple Cap in IPL 2020 taking 30 wickets in the season. The Kings managed to rope him in for 9.25 crores and add some muscle to their bowling attack in the process. Punjab will have him available from their first game onwards as he is not a part of the Test squad announced for the series against Bangladesh.

The young-left arm pacer was retained by Punjab Kings ahead of the mega auction. He will be a key bowler for the Kings given his variations and ability to bowl at the death. So far the young bowler has taken 30 wickets in 23 matches for his side. He will be a part of the bowling group that is less on experience barring Rabada.

Rahul Chahar performed impressively for Mumbai Indian in the couple of seasons that he played with the franchise. Now he will partner Harpreet Brar in Punjab’s spin attack. He has bowled some really impressive spells in the IPL in the past. Chahar and Brar give a lot of potency to the Punjab spin attack for IPL 2022.
