PBKS vs RR: I Did Not Know That I Will Be The Man of The Match - Yashasvi Jaiswal
Rajasthan Royals returned to winning ways after two successive losses as they beat Punjab Kings on Saturday by 6 wickets.
The top performers for the side were Yuzvendra Chahal and Yashasvi Jaiswal. But it was Jaiswal who picked up the player of the match award for his stroke-filled 68 off 41 balls.
I Want To Dedicate This Innings To Zubin Sir: Yashasvi Jaiswal
Jaiswal wasn’t part of the RR playing XI after an initial couple of games as he didn’t show much promise. But he returned at the top of the order for RR in the game against PBKS at his home town in Mumbai. He showed his class from the get-go as he hit Sandeep Sharma for three fours in the very first over itself.
He continued to attack even after two quick wickets fell in the form of Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson. Both Buttler and Samson had played good cameos but those were not enough to take RR close to the target of 190. It was Jaiswal who took the responsibility. Devdutt Padikkal batting in the middle order after opening the innings struggled in the middle but Jaiswal’s good game awareness and great stroke play didn’t let the pressure get to Padikkal. Eventually, he was dismissed by Arshdeep Singh but till then he had done his job.
In the post-match presentation Jaiswal said, “To be honest, I didn’t know I’ll be the Man of the Match. It’s an amazing feeling whenever I go and bat, with all my pride I go and bat. (Favourite shot) I think the one I hit Rahul Chahar over the covers. I just tried to keep it simple – good cricketing shots.”
I want to dedicate this innings to Zubin sir (Zubin Bharucha). He has helped me a lot during all the times, whenever I was sitting with him when I was down. He has been pushing me always. It’s been a pleasure to perform like this. He has motivated me a lot, pushing me every day like ‘you can do it, you’ll do it, just keep working hard.’ I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing, I’ll try my best.”
RR would hope that Jaiswal can continue the same form going ahead in the tournament.
