IPL 2022: Punjab Kings Is One Team Who Have Not Done Justice To Their Talent Over The Years - Sunil Gavaskar

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar made a telling statement on Punjab Kings (PBKS), asserting that they haven’t utilized their talent pool well and will find it hard to turn it around in an instant.

Ahead of the IPL 2022 season, each team will be lining up strategies and eyeing the prestigious trophy. One of the three teams that haven’t won a trophy yet, PBKS, will find it hard to script a change in their history, as per Gavaskar.

“It is not going to be easy. They are one team, who over the years, have not done justice to their talent. The reasons, we don’t know. In T20 format, it is just that sometimes you need that element of luck.”

“But they are the team who can only get better because, if I’m not wrong they are yet to reach the finals (they reached in 2014). So there is that incentive in front of them, to make the knockouts or the finals. And who knows, once they get there, they could take the trophy home,” Gavaskar told in a conversation with Star Sports.

PBKS has fallen just short of qualifying for the playoffs in the last couple of years despite having a talented bunch of players amidst its ranks. The story might be repeated once again if Anil Kumble and co. don’t find the right balance in their playing XI.

This time around, they have made a few excellent buys at the auction. PBKS has managed to acquire the services of Kagiso Rabada and has shored up their batting lineup with the likes of Liam Livingstone, Jonny Bairstow, and the hard-hitting Shahrukh Khan.
