Royal Challengers Bangalore will lock horns with Punjab Kings in what will be the third match of the IPL 2022 on Sunday at D.Y. Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. Royal Challengers Bangalore fared pretty in the league stage last year. However, Kolkata Knight Riders shattered their dreams of lifting the title after beating them in the Eliminator match.
Ahead of a new season, RCB would be hopeful of winning the elusive title. The franchise will be playing under a new skipper in Faf du Plessis. The former South Africa captain has a successful captaincy record under his belt. He would be using all his experience to help the team lift their first IPL title. Virat Kohli might have stepped down from the captaincy but still remains an integral part of the side.
His form is vital to the team’s fortune this year, especially because AB de Villiers is no longer part of the side. Though, neither of them was the team’s highest run-getter last season. It was Glenn Maxwell, rather, and the team would be hoping that he replicates a similar performance this year as well.
To add further strength in the middle-order, they have included the likes of Mahipal Lomror and Dinesh Karthik. Both are proven performances, however, how consistent will they be for RCB this year remains to be seen.
Punjab Kings, on the other, don’t have a dearth of big names either. There is no denying the fact that they have managed to compile an outstanding squad this year. Mayank Agarwal, who is Punjab’s new skipper, should open the batting alongside Shikhar Dhawan, followed by Jonny Bairstow at number three.
Punjab Kings have one of the best middle-order this year. They have three quality hitters in Liam Livingstone, Shahrukh Khan, and Odean Smith. All of them are brutal hitters of the cricket ball and Punjab, thus, would be confident of posting big totals on the scoreboard.
Their bowling unit looks equally impressive. Punjab Kings have managed to acquire the services of Kagiso Rabada for a prize of 9.25 crore. He will lead the pace attack this year and will be supported by left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh. As far as back-ups are concerned, they have got the likes of Nathan Ellis and Sandeep Sharma.
The spin department will be led by Rahul Chahar, while Harpreet Brar too is likely to be part of the playing XI for the first game.
