Despite being bowled out for 128 in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Brendon McCullum applauded Kolkata Knight Riders’ aggressive batting strategy.
The head coach of the KKR was pleased that his batters committed to the prescribed attack theory when a more conservative approach may have gained the team a slightly higher total, which, based on the tense end, may have even proved to be match-winning.
The Knight Riders were reduced to 44 for 3 at the Powerplay, but where another side could have played out a few sedate overs to rebuild, players like Shreyas Iyer and Sunil Narine – promoted to take down spin – were eager to take on their opponents and lost their wickets in the process.
The batters were aware of the dangers, but they also remembered how dew had helped pursue teams in each of the previous games this season.
Even after losing early wickets, KKR’s batting intent was excellent: McCullum
Even though McCullum lamented his team’s luck and how aggressive shots usually found fielders, he insisted that his club had been put up to play this high-risk, high-reward game.
After the loss, McCullum commented, “I truly enjoyed the intent, I thought the intent was terrific.”
You support the notion that you are playing along with the batting lineup and that you are playing the additional better. You don’t expect to be bowled out. To be honest, I didn’t think we had much luck today. To be honest, we appeared to find a fielder or things didn’t exactly go our way every time we went for the aggressive option. As a result, that can happen at times.
In an Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by three wickets.
