Kohli could be the second player after Punjab Kings (PBKS) opener Shikhar Dhawan, who amassed 659 fours in 192 innings, to reach the milestone. Former Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper David Warner is third on the list with 509 fours and Suresh Raina, who went unsold in IPL 2022, accumulated 506 fours in his IPL career.

In RCB’s first match of IPL 2022, Kohli scored an unbeaten 41 off 29 balls at a strike rate of 141.37, the former RCB skipper just hit one four and a couple of sixes during his 118-run stand with new skipper Faf du Plessis.

RCB went on to lose the match by five wickets after Mayank Agarwal & co displayed a solid approach in their chase of 206 in the second innings.

I am expecting Virat Kohli to score 600-plus runs this year: AB de Villiers

Kohli’s long-time RCB teammate and former South Africa captain AB de Villiers expects the Indian batter to score more than 600 runs in this edition of the IPL.

Everyone knows about Faf du Plessis coming in as captain. I think the most exciting thing for me is Virat not being captain and releasing a bit of the pressure, really just going out there and freeing up. I am expecting a very big season from Virat. I am thinking 600+ runs from him this year,” de Villiers said on YouTube channel ‘VUSport Streaming’.

IPL 2016 was Kohli’s best season as the former RCB skipper amassed 973 runs in 16 innings at an impressive strike rate above 152. It was also the same season where he slammed four centuries, only Chris Gayle has hit a couple of hundreds in IPL 2011.

RCB will take on KKR at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai on Wednesday (March 30).
