Former India head coach Ravi Shastri believes senior wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik can make a remarkable comeback for the ICC World T20 2022, which will be hosted by defending champions Australia.

Karthik was signed by Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team for the 15th season after being released by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

Karthik made his RCB come back with important innings against Punjab Kings (PBKS). Karthik’s contribution then aided RCB beat the Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Bangalore’s second appearance in the IPL 2022. Karthik then delivered a brilliant innings to assist RCB defeat Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their previous match.

In the league stage of the cash-rich tournament, Karthik’s batting performances for the Faf du Plessis-led side impressed him.

He has got the experience, he has got all the shots: Ravi Shastri

Ravi Shastri, the former Indian head coach, believes that the RCB star might play a role in the ICC World T20 2022.
“Given the amount of cricket played and the injuries that might occur, if you have a strong IPL season, which I believe he does, I believe he is correct in thinking that way.” He’s off to a great start, and if he has a fantastic season, he’ll be right in the mix.

“He’s got the experience, he’s got all the shots…you’re also looking at a finisher now that Dhoni isn’t in the side. However, you must consider how many keepers you require – Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, and now Karthik. And if there’s an injury, he automatically comes in,” Shastri told ESPNcricinfo.

In IPL 2022, Karthik scored 90 runs for the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise. In the 15th season, Karthik has gone undefeated in all three matches(32 off 14, 14 off 7, and 44 off 23).

When previous head coach Ravi Shastri was in charge, Karthik was a member of India’s World Cup squad in 2019. Karthik last played for India in a T20I match in 2019.
