Former India pace bowler RP Singh said Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik tends to make errors while overthinking.
Karthik has had a stellar run in IPL 2022 while admiring the role of finisher for RCB on numerous instances this season.
Karthik has amassed 285 runs in 13 innings at an average of 57 in IPL 2022 so far. The Tamil Nadu player plundered 204 runs in the slog overs (16-20) striking at 229.21.
However, Karthik couldn’t bail RCB out from a tricky situation against Punjab Kings on Friday.
RCB vs PBKS: Arshdeep Singh dismiss Dinesh Karthik for 11
RCB were reduced to 104/5 in the 12th over when Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmed found themselves at the crease with the daunting task of scoring 106 runs off 52 balls. The RCB gloveman managed to hit just one boundary during his run-a-ball 11-run stay at the crease.
Karthik attempted to slice Arshdeep Singh for a boundary but found Bhanuka Rajapaksa at the short third region. RCB lost the match by 54 runs and their chances of qualifying for playoffs hang around a few favourable results going their way.
Give Dinesh Karthik less time to think, he’ll do really well: RP Singh
RP Singh said Karthik plays well when he has fewer balls to face but won’t last at the pitch if he gets more time to play at the crease.
“Dinesh Karthik was my batchmate in the U-19 World Cup. He used to get run-out then as well, there’s no change in that! (chuckles) Whenever he thinks too much, he makes mistakes.
“That’s the kind of character he is. Give him less time to think, he’ll do really well. When he knows he has to play 10 off the 20 deliveries left, he brings out his best performance,” he told Cricbuzz.
“You know how a cocky guys does it? He thinks he has to do it and will hit whenever the ball is on his radar. You’ll know it from his body language. He’s the best player for this number of remaining deliveries,” he added.
RCB will play their final match of the league stage against Gujarat Titans on May 19 at the Wankhede Stadium. The Faf du Plessis-led side will have to muster a win to boost their chances of making the cut in the IPL 2022 playoffs.
