Ravichandran Ashwin became just the 8th player in the history of the IPL to pick 150 wickets when he clean bowled Rajat Patidar of Royal Challengers Bangalore here at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Tuesday.
Ashwin has found some form in the last couple of games as he has been picking more wickets than he was at the start of the season. He has been bowling more and more carrom balls and that is working for him very well. He bowled a brilliant ball to dismiss Andre Russell earlier in the season.
Ravichandran Ashwin is Just The 6th Indian To Pick 150 Wickets
There are just 6 other Indian bowlers to have picked more wickets than Ashwin in the tournament. While only Lasith Malinga and Dwayne Bravo are the two foreigners to have picked more than 150 wickets in IPL.
Before Ashwin, the other Indians to have achieved the feat are his teammate Yuzvendra Chahal, Amit Mishra, Piyush Chawla, Harbhajan Singh and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Harbhajan has exactly 150 wickets, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has 151 wickets, Chahal and Piyush Chawla have 157 wickets while Dwayne had recently gone past Lasith Malinga tp become the highest wicket-taker in the tournament.
Ashwin who started his career with Chennai Super Kings has been brilliant in the tournament over the years. There was a time in IPL when he didn’t get to play games at all when he was associated with Pune Supergiant.
In later years he went onto captain Kings XI Punjab for a couple of years before being traded to Delhi Capitals in 2020.
He was picked up by Rajasthan Royals in the auctions and the pair of Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal has been brilliant for the franchise.
