Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, And Kieron Pollard Retained By Mumbai Indians (MI) For IPL 2022. Mumbai Indians franchise have announced their retentions list for IPL 2022. The five-time IPL champions have retained 2 players in their squad. IPL 2022 is set to be a 10-team event with the addition of two new franchises- Lucknow and Ahmedabad. As a result, a mega auction is set to take place ahead of the IPL 2022.

All the current 8 teams were asked to retain a maximum of 4 players in their squads ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction. Out of these, there can be only a maximum of 3 domestic players and 2 overseas players. The teams can retain either 1, 2, 3, or 4 players according to their preferences. A franchise can also go ahead with 0 retentions.

Mumbai Indians Announce Their IPL 2022 Retentions List

Mumbai Indians retained two players in their squad for IPL 2022. The MI skipper Rohit Sharma is the first player who has been retained by the franchise. Jasprit Bumrah is the second player that the Mumbai Indians have retained while Suryakumar Yadav is the team’s 3rd retention. Kieron Pollard has been retained as the only overseas player by MI.

Mumbai Indians, who won the titles in IPL 2019 and IPL 2020, failed to even qualify for playoffs in IPL 2021. The Rohit Sharma-led side lost 7 games and won 7 games out of 14 during the league stage and finished on the 5th spot in the points table. They had equal 14 points as that of Kolkata Knight Riders, however, were far ahead in the matter of net run rate. As a result, Mumbai Indians could not qualify for the playoffs.

After the revelations of retained players by each franchise, the 2 new teams Ahmedabad and Lucknow will be allowed to pick three players directly into their squad. These 3 players will be from the pool of released players. Out of these 3 players, 2 should be domestic while 1 should be an overseas player.

Each team has a salary purse of Rs. 90 crore for IPL 2022 mega auction. However, they will lose some amount according to their retentions list. The team with 4 retentions will lose Rs. 42 crore from their salary purse while the team with 3 retentions will lose Rs. 33 crore from their salary purse. For 2 and 1 retained players. Rs. 24 crore and Rs. 14 crore respectively will de deducted from the salary cap of each team.
