Former Indian player Ajay Jadeja said Rajasthan Royals leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has a sharper brain than everyone thinks of him. On Monday, Rajasthan eked out Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by seven runs at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai to move second on the points table of IPL 2022.
England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler’s splendorous 61-ball 103 comprising nine fours and five sixes striking at 168.55 powered Royals to a praiseworthy total of 217/5.
KKR suffered a shocker in the first ball of their chase with Sunil Narine getting run out by Shimron Hetmyer’s impressive direct hit from the cover. Finch along with skipper Shreyas Iyer rebuild KKR’s innings to set the platform for the chase with a stand of 107 between the two iconic players. Finch holed out to Karun Nair at third man off Prasidh Krishna’s bowling in the ninth over.

The RR leg-spinner claimed four wickets in his final over including a hat-trick to finish with 5/40, his maiden five-wicket haul in the IPL. Rajasthan won the game by seven runs despite Umesh Yadav’s late counter-attacking shots threatening to take away the game. Obed McCoy picked the final two wickets in the last over to bowl KKR out for 210.
Yuzvendra Chahal knew that he will concede a lot at this venue: Ajay Jadeja
Jadeja said Royals would have lost the game if Chahal had not picked those wickets at the crucial juncture of the game. The former Indian player applauded the leg-spinner for coming back from behind after conceding runs in his first couple of overs.
“Everyone keeps saying that Chahal has a big heart and all, but I am trying to convince people that the cricketing brain he has, is probably three or four times more than we think has the best brain. Had he not taken those wickets, RR would not have won the game,” Jadeja told Cricbuzz.
“Chahal knew that he will concede a lot at this venue, but he knew that if he picks up wickets, that will help his side more. Even after a poor start to his spell, the intent to pick up wickets was still there. He bowled a test match length to Cummins to take that wicket,” he added.
Rajasthan Royals will play against Delhi Capitals on April 22 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
