Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson was over the moon after his side registered a nail-biting 7-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Brabourne Stadium on Monday.

Batting first, Jos Buttler smashed a century, his second of the IPL 2022 season, to help RR post a daunting total of 217 on the board. There were late contributions from Shimron Hetmyer and Sanju Samson as well which propelled the total.

In response, KKR was bossing the chase at 178/4 in 16 overs. The equation was down to 40 runs in 4 overs when the match turned on its head following one of the overs of the tournament from Yuzvendra Chahal.

He took the important wicket of Shreyas Iyer, who was batting on 85 and followed it up with two more to register a hattrick. Despite late efforts from Umesh Yadav, RR held its nerve and jumped up to second on the points table.

It got tensed. The quality of players made it very interesting. Very happy for the win. There are some things that need to be used at the right time. You need to be smart enough to slow it down.”

I respect KKR as a unit. We never thought we were in the game. I think I don’t need to talk much about individuals. We are lucky to have great players. Special mention to Ashwin for his delivery to Russell,” Samson said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

The loss is also KKR’s 3rd in a row and they will have to go back to the drawing board to figure out the things they are doing wrong in crunch situations.

Final Scores:

RR – 217/5 in 20 overs
KKR – 210- all out in 19.4 overs
