Rajasthan Royals pace bowler Trent Boult on Sunday revealed the plan behind Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul’s dismissal. Rajasthan Royals eked out LSG by three runs to win their third game of IPL 2022 while defending the score.

Shimron Hetmyer’s 36-ball 59, laced with one four and six sixes at 163.89, powered Rajasthan Royals to 165/6 at the end of the innings. As the Royals were set to defend the moderate target, Boult went around the wicket to Rahul and defeated his pad and bat to crash into the stumps with a fabulous inswinger on the first balls of the second innings.

In his second legal delivery, Boult pinned Krishnappa Gowtham in front of the stumps with another inswinging ripper, this time bowling over the wicket. Boult ended his figures with 2/30 as LSG found it difficult to overcome the early blows dented by the New Zealand pacer.

After the game, Boult revealed that Jimmy Neesham had planned to go around the wicket to Rahul just in the morning. RR skipper Sanju Samson wasn’t aware of the whole plan only when Boult told him ahead of the chase.

“It was a late call in the morning (to go around the wicket). It was Neesham’s idea. Rahul is a great player, but nice for a plan like that to come off. It is my role with the new ball to be aggressive and take wickets in the powerplay so it was a good feeling to get a couple. At the top it is to pitch it up and get some movement,” Boult told official broadcasters after the win against LSG.

Kuldeep Sen is a great guy, bowls with heart: Trent Boult

Madhya Pradesh pacer Kuldeep Sen, who cleaned up Deepak Hood in the 10th over, was left with an arduous task of defending 15 runs in the final over against Marcus Stoinis. Kuldeep bowled Stoinis wide off the off-stump and kept the reach away from the Australian player.

The 25-year-old bowled three consecutive dots to dismiss LSG’s chances of winning despite getting hit for a four and six in the last two balls. Boult said that Kuldeep will gain experience by performing under pressure situations.

“He is a great guy, bowls with heart. Executed under pressure and will only grow from an experience like that. There are some quality fast bowling assets in our side and throughout the tournament” Boult asserted.

Rajasthan Royals will play their next match against Gujarat Titans on April 14 at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
