SRH’s team makeup has been questioned by former India coach Ravi Shastri, who has questioned their choice to release talented all-rounder Rashid Khan before the tournament.

All eight previous IPL franchises had published a list of retained players before the big auctions in February, while newcomers Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans had declared their top three picks.

While there were a few surprises, such as RCB’s choice to release Yuzvendra Chahal, Mumbai Indians’ decision to release Ishan Kishan, and Punjab Kings’ decision to retain only two players, nothing could compare to SRH’s decision to leave out Rashid Khan.

SRH kept Kane Williamson, Abdul Samad, and Umran Malik, and while they had the option of keeping a fourth player, it was revealed that Rashid didn’t want to be the fourth.

Rashid left the franchise in December, according to sources, because he wanted to be SRH’s No. 1 retention. He was eventually selected by IPL 2022 debutants Lucknow Super Giants for a fee of 15 crores.

Ravi Shastri questioned the decision and believes the franchise should have done more to keep Rashid.

“Now is the time. Especially when you consider the absence of Rashid Khan from Sunrisers Hyderabad. I often wonder how you could leave him, how you could let him go. I would have grabbed his leash. Stay put and don’t go. On the numbers, we’ll sort you out. ‘I can’t let you go,’ “On Tuesday, Shastri stated on Byju’s Cricket Live Show.

However, putting Rashid’s situation aside, Ravi Shastri believes RR is a lot better unit than SRH based on the entire composition of the side.

“But, when you look at the two teams, you have to give Rajasthan the edge – Ashwin is there, Chahar is there, and Trent Boult has flown in from Mumbai. Rajasthan appears to be the best all-around option. In the SRH camp, something is missing. I’m aware that they have Kane. I’m not sure how physically fit he is. However, when compared to the Rajasthan Royals, this Sunrisers team is a mixed bag “Ravi Shastri made the point.

Rajasthan Royals scored 210/6 in the first innings, and their bowlers made it appear easy to defend the target, limiting SRH to 149/7 at the end of the game.
