SRH vs RR: There Is No Doubting His Potential, Umran Malik Is An India Player – Ravi Shastri

Former India National Cricket Team head coach Ravi Shastri was highly impressed with the performance of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) express pacer Umran Malik in the battle against Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Tuesday.

Umran Malik got smashed for 2 fours and 2 sixes by Jos Buttler in his first over in the match but he made a strong comeback and dismissed Buttler in his next over and finished with figures of 2/39 in a high scoring encounter.

Speaking to Star Sports, Shastri said that he likes the attitude of the SRH pacer. He added that Umran has got genuine pace and he can trouble batters but he needs to be handled properly.

“He is consistent and I like his attitude. This kid can only learn. This guy has got genuine pace, if he hits the right areas, he is going to trouble a lot of batters. It’s about handling him properly. You have got to give him the right messages. The way you communicate with him will be very important. There is no doubting his potential. This guy is an India player,” Ravi Shastri told Star Sports.

Former India National Cricket Team head coach said that Umran Malik should be “handled with care” and he should be in the mix so that “he doesn’t go out of bounds.”

“When he is ready, only time will tell but the communication part is extremely important. He should be handled with care and kept in him the mix so that he doesn’t go out of bounds,” he added.

Shastri added that the Indian selection committee needs to keep a close eye on Umran.

“I think he has to be around the mix of the Indian cricket team. The selectors have to watch him closely. He can be part of the extended party of the Indian cricket team in these Covid-19 times.”
