Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Varun Chakravarthy, And Venkatesh Iyer Retained By Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) For IPL 2022

Kolkata Knight Riders have announced their retentions list for IPL 2022. The two-time IPL champions have retained 4 players in their squad. The deadline for IPL 2022 retentions list was November 30, 2021 and all the teams have announced their retained players.

IPL 2022 is going to be a 10-team event instead of 8. Lucknow and Ahmedabad are the two new franchises that will be part of the next year’s edition. Hence, due to the addition of 2 new teams, a mega auction is also set to take place next year. Ahead of the IPL 2022 auction, all the current 8 teams were asked to retain 4 players in their squad, out of which only 2 can be the maximum number of overseas players.

Kolkata Knight Riders Releases IPL 2022 Retentions List

In Kolkata Knight Riders’ retentions list for IPL 2022, Varun Chakravarthy and Venkatesh Iyer are the 2 domestic players who are retained by the team. Overseas players Andre Russell and Sunil Narine are the other 2 players that the franchise has retained.

Kolkata Knight Riders gave an astonishing show in IPL 2021. The team railed behind at the no.7 spot in the points table after the 1st leg. In the UAE leg, the Eoin Morgan-led side qualified for playoffs after back-to-back victories.

In the playoffs too, KKR gave a magnificent performance. They defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore in Eliminator game and then defeated Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 2. However, Kolkata Knight Riders lost the final to Chennai Super Kings and finished as runners-up of IPL 2021.

The salary purse for IPL 2022 mega auction for each team is Rs. 90 crore. The retentions will deduce the salary purse for each team. For teams that retained 4 players, Rs. 42 crore will be deducted from their salary purse. The team that retains 3 players, Rs. 33 crore will be deducted from their salary purse.

Teams will 2 retentions will lose Rs. 24 crore from the salary cap while teams that retain 1 player will lose Rs. 14 crore. If a team retains only 1 player and he is uncapped, Rs. 4 crore will be deducted from their salary purse.

Since the IPL 2022 retentions lists are announced by all the teams, the two new franchises will be now allowed to pick 3 players of their choice from the pool of released players. Out of these 3 players, 2 should be domestic while 1 can be overseas. The two new franchises have a window from December 1 to December 25, 2021 to pick their players.
