The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League, which is IPL 2022, will commence in the last week of March in India and it will conclude in May.
The 15th edition of the IPL will be a 10-team tournament as two new teams – Ahmedabad owned by CVC Capital and Lucknow owned by RPSG Group – are set to join the Indian Premier League 2022 mega auction.

Meanwhile, Jay Shah on Saturday said that the majority of franchise owners wanted Indian Premier League to be held in India.
“I am delighted to confirm that the 15th season of the IPL will start in the last week of March and will run until May end. A majority of the team owners expressed their wish that the tournament be held in India. The BCCI was always keen on staging the 2022 edition that will see two new teams – Ahmedabad and Lucknow – in India,” Shah said in an official statement.
The two new teams have already revealed their draft picks ahead of the upcoming mega auction. Ahmedabad included Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, and Shubman Gill in their team. Meanwhile, Lucknow picked KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, and Ravi Bishnoi, in their team.
The Mega IPL Auction Will Take Place On February 12-13th – Jay Shah
The BCCI secretary said that the board “ will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that IPL stays in India”. He added that the BCCI will also work on Plan B to host the Indian Premier League 2022, keeping in mind the Covid-19 situation in the country. Also, Jay Shah confirmed that the mega auction will take place on February 12 & 13.
“I can tell you that we will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that IPL stays in India. The BCCI has not compromised on the health and safety of its stakeholders in the past and will concurrently work on Plan B since the COVID-19 situation with new variants remains fluid. The mega IPL Auction will take place on February 12-13th and we will lock in venues before that,” he added.
A total of 1214 players including 896 Indian and 318 overseas have registered to be a part of the Indian Premier League 2022 mega auction. Among 1214 players 270 are capped, 903 are uncapped and 41 are Associate players.
