Indian Premier League 2021 (IPL)

The Indian Premier League 2021 or the IPL 2021 was the fourteenth edition of the IPL, India's premier franchise T20 competition. The tournament began on April 9 as originally scheduled before being postponed on May 4 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. At that time, only 31 of the 60 matches were played.

Later, the BCCI announced that the remainder of the tournament would be played in the United Arab Emirates. The competition then took place from September 19 to October 15. Mumbai Indians were the two-time defending champions but failed to make it to the playoffs. Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders locked horns against each other and the Chennai-based outfit clinched the title by winning the game by 27 runs.

IPL 2021 Teams:

A total of 8 teams participated in IPL 2021. It was the last season with eight teams before the BCCI introduced two more teams in 2022 to make the IPL a 10-team affair. The teams that participated in IPL 2021 are:

Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders qualified for the playoffs in IPL 2021. Delhi finished at the top of the points table with 10 wins while Chennai and Bangalore registered 9 wins each. Kolkata qualified after winning 7 of their 14 league games.

Chennai Super Kings' Ruturaj Gaikwad finished IPL 2021 as the highest run-scorer. He scored 635 runs in 16 games to win the Orange Cap. On the other hand, Royal Challengers Bangalore's Harshal Patel was the top wicket-taker, taking 32 wickets in 15 games to clinch the Purple Cap.
