The IPL 2021 has been suspended indefinitely after the surge in Covid-19 cases among the players inside the bio -bubble and it seems to be the right call from BCCI. Two players started testing positive suddenly for the virus and after some time, the number of cases started increasing forcing the IPL to be suspended immediately.

It could be a blessing in disguise for the struggling teams who were at the bottom half of the table and they can pick themselves up before the IPL restarts again. But this could be also a nightmare for the teams that started off really well so far in the tournament and they will have to restart again with no momentum. Here are 3 teams that have suffered after the suspension of IPL 2021.

Royal Challengers had a pretty good start to this season and they won their first four games on the trot which was the first time in IPL history for the franchise. They had a tough three games after that but did show a lot of character in the game against Delhi and pulled off a win by just one run. However, they were outplayed in the games against Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings.

They finished third in the points table at the midway with 5 wins in 7 games but were the only team with a negative run rate in the top four teams. They were touted to cruise to the playoffs with the start they have got in this season and players like Maxwell, AB Devilliers, Jamieson, Harshal Patel, and Padikkal have come to the party. Despite Kohli having an average season, RCB did very well to reach the stage they are in and they will feel unlucky to not continue the good start.

Delhi Capitals were among the only two teams that played more than 7 games in the tournament and they finished at the top of the table with 6 wins in 8 games at a very good run rate. They just needed to win two more games to be almost certain of a playoff spot and they had 6 games in hand. Delhi was playing really well as a group and they have been dominating the teams until the tournament was suspended.

They surprisingly lost to the Rajasthan Royals early and then they lost to RCB by just one run which they should have won. Without Shreyas Iyer, Delhi still had the resources to do well and the youngsters like Lalit Yadav and Avesh Khan stepped up to the occasion. Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Hetmyer all have been in really good form and they were playing an excellent brand of cricket. Delhi will be certainly worried about the IPL being suspended as this looked like the year for them to fetch their first title and now they will have to restart again.

Chennai Super Kings after a poor season last year showed the people why they are one of the toughest opponents in IPL. The return of Raina and the addition of Moeen Ali turned out to be precious and they had an immediate impact after coming into the team. Dhoni’s leadership has been quite superb and they looked like the Chennai they used to be in the early years dominating teams.

They finished second in the table, but they had a match in hand and with the healthy run rate, they would have pipped past the Delhi side to the top. CSK managed to win 5 games out of their seven and they lost only to the last season’s finalists Delhi and Mumbai so far. They have addressed their issues with the ball and despite the loss to Mumbai in their last game, they looked like cruising to the playoffs easily.
