5 Bowlers With The Most Wickets In A Single IPL Season. The evolution of T20 cricket has made it really hard for bowlers to dish out outstanding performances on a consistent basis. On most occasions, the bowlers are on the receiving end of the destruction caused by world-class batsmen. The situation in IPL is no different.

However, amongst all the poor performances, the fans also get to see some heart-warming spells from the bowlers. In the Indian Premier League, Purple Cap is presented to the player who takes the most wickets in a single season.

Over the years, we have seen quite a few exceptional performances with the ball. In the ongoing season, the likes of Harshal Patel and Avesh Khan have ruled the roost. Here’s a look at the top five bowlers who have picked the most number of wickets in a single season in IPL.

5 Bowlers With The Most Wickets In A Single IPL Season:

5. James Faulkner: 28 wickets in IPL 2013

Rajasthan Royals finished third on the points table in the 2013 edition of the Indian Premier League and James Faulkner played a massive role in RR wins.

He picked the most wickets for the franchise and also ended with the second-highest number of wickets in IPL 2013. Faulkner took 28 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls.

In his IPL career, he has picked 59 wickets in 60 matches at an average of 30.13.

4. Lasith Malinga: 28 wickets in IPL 2011

Veteran fast bowler, Lasith Malinga has picked the most number of wickets in IPL. He has played a massive role in making MI the most successful team in the history of IPL.

His best season came in the 2011 edition of the tournament. Malinga led the wicket charts with 28 wickets to his name. Consistent performances also helped him earn the purple cap of the season.

Mumbai Indians made their exit in qualifier 2 against RCB during that season. RCB defeated them by 43 runs. Malinga, sadly, couldn’t pick a single wicket in that game.

3. Kagiso Rabada: 30 wickets in IPL 2020

Delhi Capitals’ fast bowler, Kagiso Rabada won the purple cap in IPL 2020. He formed a brilliant pair with Anrich Nortje and played an influential role in taking Delhi Capitals to the final of the IPL 2021.

Rabada was brilliant both in the powerplay as well as in the death overs. At times, he was called upon in the middle overs to break partnerships and he rarely disappointed his team. Rabada finished with 30 wickets in 17 matches at an average of 18.27.

2. Harshal Patel: 30 wickets in IPL 2021

Royal Challengers Bangalore have reached the playoffs in the ongoing IPL 2021 and Harshal Patel has had a massive role to play in that. He has singlehandedly won games for RCB this season.

Harshal Patel’s ability to pick wickets in the death overs has helped RCB not allow the opposition to get the desired finish with the bat. This season, he has picked a five-for, a four-for and a hat-trick.

Overall, Patel has 30 wickets in just 14 matches at a strike rate of 10.47. He is set to play the Eliminator match against KKR on Tuesday and would be keen to add more to his tally.

1. Dwayne Bravo: 32 wickets in IPL 2013

Bravo has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since the 2011 edition of the Indian Premier League. He has been one of the consistent performers for the franchise.

His variety of slower balls has helped him pick wickets at different stages in the game. His best season with the ball came during the 2013 edition of the tournament.

Bravo picked as many as 32 wickets during that season in 18 matches and helped the team reach the final of the tournament. CSK, unfortunately, lost the final against MI by 23 runs. Bravo picked four wickets in that game for 42 runs in 4 overs.
