IPL 2021: 5 Players Who Left RCB And Then Performed Better For MS Dhoni’s Team

MS Dhoni has been such a talisman in the IPL and he has been one of the best masterminds over the years which has led to the development of many youngsters in his team. He reads the game really well and he has won a lot of trophies for the nation as well as for his franchise side.

RCB management is different from the CSK setup and players have always been willing to learn from MS Dhoni. He has been speaking a lot to the youngsters and he is approaching the last few years of his IPL career too as a player. He has played for two franchises in his career, the Chennai Super Kings and the Rising Pune Supergiants.

Here are 5 players who left RCB and then performed better for MS Dhoni’s team.

5. Moeen Ali

The England all-rounder Moeen Ali was picked by the CSK franchise for 7 crores in the 2021 IPL auction after being released by the Royal Challengers Bangalore squad. Moeen Ali has been a revelation ever since he has come into the side and has had a large impact on the team’s success. He has been batting at three, scoring 133 runs in the 4 games he played at a healthy strike rate.

Apart from his batting, he has been contributing with the ball as well and he produced a brilliant spell against the Rajasthan Royals. RCB would have been very worried about the fact that they had let go of the all-rounder and Moeen Ali has been performing really well under MS Dhoni’s team.

4. Shane Watson

Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson had a tough time with the RCB franchise in the 2016 and 2017 editions. Approaching the late end of his career, CSK opted for him at the 2018 auction and it proved to be limelight for him to play in MS Dhoni’s team. He had an excellent start to his CSK career with a title win in 2018.

He scored 555 runs in the first season under MS Dhoni and CSK persisted with him continuously for the 2019 and 2020 editions. He announced his retirement from franchise cricket in 2020 and he is one of the legends of the IPL from the inaugural edition where he played for the Rajasthan Royals.

3. Karn Sharma

The leg spinner Karn Sharma has been part of various IPL teams in the past and not many people would know that he played his first IPL game for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He wasn’t given the ball but was sent into bat in which he scored 1 off 3 balls. He was then picked by the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

His successful stints with Sunrisers Hyderabad and then Mumbai Indians earned him a spot in the CSK franchise in the 2018 auction. He has played very few games for the franchise and has taken 10 wickets in the 12 games he has played at a strike rate of 33.33. He is a much-improved bowler now under MS Dhoni and will be raring to go if he gets an opportunity.

2. Ashok Dinda

The veteran fast bowler Ashok Dinda was part of the RCB franchise in the 2014 and 2015 editions. His economy rate was on the higher side and picked up just five wickets and as a result, he was released by the franchise. He was picked by Rising Pune Supergiants in the 2016 edition.

He bowled really well under MS Dhoni in the 2016 edition and enjoyed a little bit of success in the Rising Pune Supergiants. He took 12 wickets in 12 games despite the franchise having a tough time and he has retired from international cricket now.

1. Jaydev Unadkat

The left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat had a brilliant IPL season in the 2017 edition and it earned him re-entry into the Indian squad. He played for the RCB franchise in the 2013 edition where he had a decent season, but his breakout season was the 2017 edition for the Rising Pune Supergiants which comprised of the legendary MS Dhoni.

He picked up 24 wickets in 12 games for the franchise and almost bagged the purple cap from Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Unadkat after his superlative performance has been earning big bucks in the IPL as he has a lot of variations under his sleeve. He is currently playing for the Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing edition.
