Sometimes, scoring a run could be very difficult for the batsman who has been out of form and consistent ducks can certainly affect the mindset and confidence of a batsman in IPL. Taking a single and changing the end brings a lot of relief to the batsman and the best seat in the house could be the non-striker’s end for an out-of-form player. But such has been the pressure involved in the game and even the best of talents can go through the phase.

Getting run out without facing a ball is one of the toughest things to digest for a batsman and it has happened in the past. It is very important to make the most of the opportunity when the player is in good form which will allow his team to get an extended run until he finds his feet. It has happened in the past and here are 5 players with four ducks in an IPL season.

5 Players With Four Ducks In An IPL Season:

Herschelle Gibbs – IPL 2009

The former South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs was part of the IPL from the inaugural edition of 2008 to the 2012 edition. Gibbs has played for the Deccan Chargers and the Mumbai Indians in the IPL and he is one of the few batsmen to have been dismissed for four ducks in a single season which he did in 2009.

It was an unwanted record for the legendary batsmen who was a terrific fielder and takes some outstanding catches at the backward point area. However, despite his four ducks, he finished with 371 runs in 14 games at an average of 33.72 and he played a crucial part in the title-winning campaign for Deccan Chargers in the 2009 IPL season.

Mithun Manhas – IPL 2011

Mithun Manhas was one of the consistent performers in the domestic circuit and he played for three franchises in the IPL including the Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, and now-defunct Pune Warriors. He is a good middle-order batsman who can bowl some off-break and he can also do wicket-keeping if needed.

He played 55 IPL games scoring 514 runs at an average of 22.35 with the highest score of 42. During the 2011 IPL, he was playing for the Pune Warriors side and he finished with four ducks in the 10 games he played. He added just 114 runs to his team in the season and he then served as the assistant coach of RCB post-retirement.

The Indian middle-order batsman Manish Pandey who is currently playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad is on the list of four ducks in a single season. Pandey was the first Indian to score a century in the IPL and he has been part of winning teams. His crucial knock in the 2014 final allowed KKR to win their second title.

Manish Pandey played for the Pune Warriors in the 2012 edition and he strangely was dismissed for four ducks in the season in 10 games. He finished the season with 143 runs and he then moved to the Kolkata Knight Riders side in 2014 where he played for the next four years.

Shikhar Dhawan – IPL 2020

Shikhar Dhawan had a roller coaster ride in the previous IPL season as he did not have the best of times in the first half of the season. He then peaked at the right time and scored two centuries on the trot to push Delhi Capitals to their first final which they lost to the Mumbai Indians.

However, he registered four ducks in the IPL 2020 and despite that, he finished as the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament with 618 runs in 17 games. His strike was nearly 145 in the entire season and kept on piling up runs after a poor start to the tournament. He has been continuing his form into the IPL 2021 as he leads the race for the orange cap now.

The IPL 2021 has just reached the mid-stage and Nicholas Pooran has already registered four ducks in the seven games he played. He had a tough time for the Punjab Kings and couldn’t get going after an impressive last season. Pooran’s downfall has heavily impacted the team’s performance as they are lying at the bottom half in the points table.

He has scored 28 runs in six innings so far which is way below his standards and Punjab Kings dropped him from the playing XI on account of his poor form and they handed the number one T20 player Dawid Malan an opportunity. Pooran is one of the cleanest strikers of the cricket ball and he will be looking to make a strong comeback to the side.
