Former England skipper Michael Vaughan was surprised as to how a player of Faf du Plessis’ caliber failed to make the South African squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Vaughan’s comments came after Du Plessis smashed 86 off 59 balls for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the final of the IPL 2021 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). His knock included seven fours and three sixes and helped CSK put up a healthy total of 192 on the board.

Du Plessis couldn’t find a place in South Africa’s squad as the board opted to go with youngsters instead of old-timers like Du Plessis and Imran Tahir. The former is in great form and had announced retirement in other forms of cricket to focus on playing T20s.

Here’s Michael Vaughan’s tweet regarding Faf Du Plessis:

However, it wasn’t to be for him. Nevertheless, Du Plessis has another chance of making it to next year’s T20 World Cup which is set to take place in Australia. Coming to his innings in the final, the Protean stitched three fifty-run partnerships.

First with the orange-cap winner, Ruturaj Gaikwad, then with Robin Uthappa, and finally finished off the innings alongside Moeen Ali. Every batsman contributed which helped CSK finish with a total of 192, which is quite par on the flat surface in Dubai.
