SunRisers Hyderabad have made a shocking decision midway through IPL 2021, removing David Warner from the captaincy position following their horror run. With only one victory from six matches, SunRisers Hyderabad have plummetted to the bottom of the points table. Moving forward, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson will lead the side and would assume the spot from the SunRisers’ next game against the Rajasthan Royals.

David Warner, under whom SunRisers Hyderabad lifted the trophy back in 2016, has struggled to lead from the front, with his batting form also taking a hit. The left-handed batsman has so far scored two fifties in IPL 2021, with the second one coming against the Chennai Super Kings recently and copped plenty of criticism. Warner’s 57 came off 55 deliveries, laced with three fours and two sixes as the Orange Army finished with 171.

It proved to be underwhelmingly less and SunRisers could have finished with more had Warner not struggled to shift gears. Meanwhile, Kane Williamson has delivered impactful performances in all three matches that he played so far, notably scoring an unbeaten 66 against the Delhi Capitals and a quick-fire 26 against the Super Kings. Williamson also has a compelling captaincy record, leading them to the finals of the 2018 edition and a year in which he also finished as the leading run-getter with 735 runs.
