Kumar Sangakkara, Director of Cricket, Rajasthan Royals on Thursday praised youngster Chetan Sakariya and called the young left-arm pacer a revelation for the side. Chetan picked 7 wickets in 7 matches in the IPL 2021 before it was suspended but impressed one and call.

Sakariya was one of the three left-arm pacers Rajasthan Royals employed along with Mustafizur Rahman and Jaydev Unadkat and was making his debut in the IPL 2021. The IPL 2021 season was suspended on May 4 due to a rising number of Covid-19 cases. Before the suspension, Rajasthan Royals was positioned at the fifth position with 6 points from 7 games.

Sakariya was usually asked to bowl a couple of overs at the start with the new ball by new RR captain Sanju Samson and he managed to get the ball swinging in the air and off the wicket as well. He was then brought back in the death overs and Chetan used to unleash his variations of slow balls, yorkers, and slow bouncers.

Chetan was a revelation, his attitude, his ability to deal with pressure, and of course, his skill. We had Anuj and Yash, the two youngsters who have been with the franchise for a very, very long time. And I was thoroughly impressed by all three of them,” said Sangakkara in a webinar organized by the Royals.

“They actually got a reasonable amount of time in the middle. Unfortunately, in the match that Anuj came into he didn’t get a chance to bat but was outstanding with his energy and skill in the field,” he added.

Chetan Sakariya might have had a brilliant outing in the IPL 2021, but his personal life has been a tale of one tragedy after another. Weeks before the IPL 2021 auction, Sakariya lost his younger brother who took his life.

During the IPL 2021, Sakariya’s father tested positive for the COVID-19 virus and was fighting for his life in the hospital. Rajasthan Royals released his payment early and Sakariya sent it to his family so that his father could be treated nicely. However, his father succumbed to the virus shortly after the IPL 2021 was suspended.
