Former Australian cricketer David Hussey has compared the new sensational opener, Venkatesh Iyer, to former New Zealand legend Stephen Fleming in the way he has played. Venkatesh Iyer’s inclusion in the side for the UAE phase of IPL 2021 has made a big difference in the side’s results.
Fleming was one of the tall openers who had a lot of elegance in him in his time, and he used his height as an advantage while adjusting to the length of the delivery. Iyer has had a significant impact on the KKR side after he has come on and is the second-highest run-scorer in UAE after Ruturaj Gaikwad.
A Stephen Fleming Clone – David Hussey Impressed By Venkatesh Iyer
David Hussey mentioned that Venkatesh Iyer has hit the ball very crisply from ball one and added that Iyer’s sixes have changed a lot of tempo in the game. He reckoned that Iyer has been class while opening and remarked him as a Stephen Fleming clone.
“He struck the ball superbly from ball one. Some of those big sixes he hit actually changed the tempo of the game and got us into a winning position. He’s just a class player at the top. He is tall, a Stephen Fleming clone, I believe. He’s got a big future in the game.”
Venkatesh Iyer Takes KKR Into The Finals
Venkatesh Iyer played a splendid inning at the top of the order for KKR in qualifier 2 that helped his side chase down the score comfortably. Iyer hit 55 of 41 balls with four fours and three sixes in his innings. He kept the momentum in the KKR side’s favour and made sure they stayed above the net run rate. He was adjudged the man of the match for his brilliant performance at the top of the order in qualifier 2.
KKR will now face CSK in the final of IPL 2021, which will be their third final overall.
