Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni was disappointed that his team started underperforming in the latter half of the league. He also stated that every team can beat another on a given day because of the high level of the tournament.

PBKS skipper KL Rahul handed a proper pasting to the Chennai side on a two-paced track in Dubai. After Chennai set a target of 135, Rahul smashed an unbeaten 98 off 42 balls that included seven fours and eight sixes to take his side over the line. Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Dhoni said:

You have to cope (when it comes to mental or skill aspect) up with that. We had played very good cricket to reach the playoff stages. We had a few bad games 2 out of 3 and one we felt like we could have a comeback and that’s part and parcel in leagues like these, you have to be at your best.

“Motivation is not a factor” – MS Dhoni

The 40-year-old skipper was questioned as to why the CSK squad has seen a dip in intensity in the last few games. After starting the UAE leg with four wins on the trot, the Men in Yellow have lost their last three matches.

Motivation is not a factor, the guys are highly motivated and maybe we need to tune up slightly as to what needs to be done and also a few tosses if they had gone our way. It would have looked worse winning toss and batting on that wicket and I felt the wicket changed a bit, it was a bit challenging but it was a good wicket,” Dhoni added.

Despite the loss, CSK is practically ensured of a top-two spot while PBKS will be holding on tight to see the result of the evening match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR).
