IPL 2021: 3 Mumbai Indians (MI) Players Who Might Miss The UAE Leg Of The Tournament

The Mumbai Indians (MI) sit at the fourth position on the IPL 2021 points table having secured 4 wins in 7 matches before the tournament came to an abrupt halt.

By the time they registered their fourth win, over the Chennai Super Kings, the team was settling in its groove with almost all players making significant contributions. Courtesy of a blinder from Kieron Pollard, helping Mumbai Indians win an epic chase against CSK, the defending champions were in top form winning two consecutive matches.

But now, with the remainder of the IPL 2021 to be conducted in the UAE in September-October, the 5-time winners stand a chance of missing some players.

Here are the 3 Mumbai Indians (MI) Players Who Might Miss The UAE Leg Of The IPL 2021:

Trent Boult

Considering that New Zealand are scheduled to play Pakistan around about the same time as the IPL, Trent Boult is likely to miss out on the second phase of the season. It would be a big blow to the Mumbai Indians if the pacer is not available.

Boult wreaked havoc last season with the new ball in the UAE, and was one of the key contributors to their title win, with a Player of the Match performance in the final. This season he has made marked improvements in his death bowling as well – out of his total 8 wickets in 7 matches, 6 have come at the death, and the other two in the powerplay.

Although Indians does have Nathan Coulter Nile, Dhawal Kulkarni and Marco Jansen, who featured in a couple of games, none of them brings in the attributes and quality of Boult.

James Neesham

James Neesham played in one game – versus CSK – before the tournament was suspended. He got out for a first-ball duck after conceding 26 runs in 2 wicketless overs with the ball. Neesham, however, remains a valuable player for the Mumbai Indians, and not just a back-up for Kieron Pollard or Hardik Pandya. That he played in their last match, his possible unavailability further would mean a change in the team and overseas combination for MI.

Adam Milne

Before the IPL Adam Milne got his recall to the New Zealand T20I side for the home series against Bangladesh. While Milne comes with a reputation of express pace, he has had struggles with injuries. Therefore, he is doubtful to feature in the UAE matches of IPL 2021 as the Kiwis prepare for the T20 World Cup.

Milne played in one game for the Indians – against Sunrisers Hyderabad – in the truncated season; he returned with disappointing figures of 0/33 in 3 overs. Again, the pace-bowling options for Rohit Sharma on the bench are not too great or too bad either.
