Kolkata Knight Riders have been playing below par this season and they will be looking to change their fortunes soon with some additions in the mid-season transfer. They have played seven games so far and have won just two of those with 5 losses. They are a far better team than the standings denote but they need to be putting up consistent team performances.
Eoin Morgan’s form hasn’t been very consistent this season and he is already facing the heat as he is the captain of the side too. Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik have fired on occasions but they are yet to have impacts that can result in a win. Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana have been struggling for runs at the top. Here are 3 players that Kolkata Knight Riders can target in the mid-season transfer.
3 Players That Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Can Target:
Sam Billings hasn’t played an IPL game yet in this season and it will be tough for him to get into the Delhi side that’s boasts of a lot of stars in their team. The likes of Marcus Stoinis and Shimron Hetmyer have done really well for the franchise and unless there is an injury, Sam Billings will not be the first choice overseas batsman for Delhi.
However, Billings can suit well in the middle order of Kolkata Knight Riders which isn’t firing at the moment. Kolkata can drop Sunil Narine and bring in Sam Billings who can be a very good batsman at the top too. He can play the finisher role as well as can make the right foundation for Russell and Karthik to fire at all cylinders.
Anuj Rawat is another Indian batsman that Kolkata can look into as their top-order batsman has been failing. Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana haven’t got the best starts for the middle order to capitalize on and they have been losing far too many wickets in the powerplay.
Anuj Rawat is a very good batsman in the domestic circuit and he has been in good form recently in the domestic games. He has been on the sidelines for the Rajasthan Royals and has played just one game so far in this IPL. He is one of the rising talents in Indian cricket and Kolkata can back him at the top order in place of misfiring Shubman Gill or Nitish Rana.
Probably, the best pick for Kolkata Knight Riders could be to bring in their former player Robin Uthappa who hasn’t played any game in this IPL so far for the Chennai Super Kings. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf Du Plessis have been very consistent at the top and it will be tough for Robin Uthappa to break into the playing XI.
Kolkata’s issues at the top with no experienced hands could be resolved by bringing in Robin Uthappa. Uthappa has been in scintillating form in the recent Vijay Hazare Trophy and he is one of the cleanest strikers of the cricket ball. He can be a valuable addition to the Kolkata Knight Riders side and they must target the IPL veteran.
