Delhi Capitals will play their first match of IPL 2021 against Chennai Super Kings. The match will be played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 10, 2021. Delhi Capitals were the runner-up in IPL 2020 as they lost the final match to Mumbai Indians. In IPL 2021, Shreyas Iyer is going to lead Delhi Capitals.

Delhi Capitals comprise a strong squad. However, they released 6 players from the team ahead of IPL 2021 auction. Alex Carey, Keemo Paul, Tushar Deshpande, Sandeep Lamichhane, Mohit Sharma, and Jason Roy were the players whom Delhi Capitals released.

In the auction, Delhi Capitals bought 3 overseas players and 5 domestic players. Delhi Capitals have some great overseas players in the team so there is a tough competition to grab to 4 slots available for them. Here we look at 4 overseas players of the Delhi Capitals who might be benched throughout IPL 2021.

Chris Woakes opted out of IPL 2020 saying that he wanted to concentrate on the national side England. He is one overseas player who might be benched by Delhi Capitals throughout IPL 2021. Woakes only played 5 matches in IPL 2018. Delhi Capitals also have Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje as pacers, and they both performed extremely well last season. So Woakes might be overlooked over the two.

Sam Billings

Sam Billings is a wicket-keeper batsman who was bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs. 2 crore in IPL 2021 auction. Delhi Capitals already have Rishabh Pant as the wicket-keeper in the team.

He is a powerful batsman and is an important asset to the team. If Pant is part of the playing 11, Sam Billings will not get a chance. So Sam Billings is less likely to feature in any match in IPL 2021.

Tom Curran

Tom Curran is an English all-rounder and he was bought for Rs. 5.25 crore by Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021 auction. Curran played 5 matches for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2020 and he wasn’t that impressive with just 83 runs and 3 wickets. In the Delhi Capitals team, there is a tough competition for overseas players and hence Tom Curran might be benched throughout the tournament.

With the arrival of Steve Smith in the team, Shimron Hetmyer might lose his spot in the playing 11. Steve Smith is a fantastic batsman and Delhi Capitals will not bench him in IPL 2021.

Hence, Smith will grab one overseas spot in the team and since Shimron Hetmyer shares the same profile of a batsman, Smith will replace him in the playing 11. So, there are chances that Shimron Hetmyer might have to sit out during IPL 2021.
