Punjab Kings will be hoping for a change in their fortunes after their new name as they haven’t won an IPL title yet and their bowling has been a major issue for them. They have roped in two quick fast bowlers from Australia (Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith) for a hefty amount of 22 crores combined to strengthen their bowling department.
With a lot of young Indian bowlers on the team, Punjab Kings need their overseas bowlers to step up and lead the way alongside seasoned campaigner Mohammad Shami. They have released the likes of K Gowtham, Sheldon Cottrell, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, James Neesham from the squad ahead of the auction.
IPL 2021: 5 Bowlers From Punjab Kings (PKBS) Who Can Take Highest Number Of Wickets:
5. Chris Jordan
Jordan can bat at 7 which will be handy for the Punjab Kings and it could be a toss-up between him and Riley Meredith for a spot in the playing XI. He has taken 21 wickets in the 20 games he has played so far in his IPL career.
4. Ravi Bishnoi
He picked up 12 wickets in the 14 games he played in the last season and his economy rate was just 7.37 which shows that the batsman has felt it hard to hit the leggie. He is a wicket-taker always and will be hoping to get a lot more wickets this season.
3. Murugan Ashwin
The leg spinner from Tamil Nadu has gained a little bit of experience in the IPL and is looking to become a handy bowler for his franchise. He started his career for the Rising Pune Supergiants and his growth has been evident in the last few years. He has played 31 games so far in his IPL career picking up 25 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 7.76.
He formed a good partnership with Ravi Bishnoi in the last edition and held the middle overs together really well. They have shown a lot of maturity despite their early days in the IPL and this could be a breakout year for him.
2. Jhye Richardson
Jhye Richardson was bought for a huge amount of money in the auction for his ability to pick up a lot of wickets. He finished as the leading wicket-taker in the Big Bash League and has earned his spot in Australia again. His ability to swing the new ball and the variations in the death overs will be crucial to the Punjab King’s success.
This will be the maiden IPL season for him and a lot will be expected from him due to the price tag on him. He picked up 29 wickets in the BBL in just 17 games and could provide good support for Mohammad Shami.
1.Mohammad Shami
Mohammad Shami is the leader of the bowling attack in the Punjab Kings team and his form will be instrumental in the team’s success. He can swing the new ball ways and can nail the yorkers to perfection in the death overs. He uses the bouncers really well and is an integral part of the Indian bowling setup.
He had a good season for the Punjab Kings in the IPL 2020 where he picked up 20 wickets in the 14 games and finished as the highest wicket-taker for his side in the last edition. A Lot will be expected from him if Punjab Kings have to win their maiden title.
