Mumbai Indians (MI) have been the standout team so far in the IPL history with five titles under their belt — and they will be aiming for their third consecutive IPL trophy. No other team has won more than three titles which shows the amount of dominance the Mumbai team has had in the IPL over the years.

Their Indian core is so strong that they bank on their Indian players to come good more than their overseas recruits. They retained most of their players and availed the services of Nathan Coulter-Nile, Jimmy Neesham, Adam Milne, and Marco Jansen in the auction for their overseas contention.

IPL 2021: 5 Reasons Why Mumbai Indians (MI) Can Win The Title This Year:

5. World Class Fast Bowlers

Mumbai Indians have two world-class fast bowlers in the form of Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah who can be devastating for any top batsmen in the world. Bumrah’s ability to hit the yorkers at will and his unconventional action makes it for the batsman to go after him.

Trent Boult was outstanding last season for the Mumbai Indians picking up 25 wickets in the IPL 2020 and was the third-highest wicket-taker in the tournament. His international experience will be really handy for the Mumbai Indians as he can swing the new ball and execute his yorkers in the death.

4. Addition Of Experienced Spinner

Mumbai Indians haven’t had an experienced spinner in the squad which was their only concern and they brought in the likes of Piyush Chawla who is a seasoned campaigner in the IPL. Rahul Chahar did not have the best of seasons last year and Chawla was a much-needed addition in their spin department to partner with Krunal Pandya.

Chawla had been part of KKR’s title-winning campaigns in 2012 and 2014, and he will be very useful to the Mumbai Indians who will be looking to retain the title. The 32-year-old has played 164 games in the IPL taking 156 wickets at an economy of 7.87.

3. Strong Batting Lineup

Mumbai Indians have one of the best batting lineups in the tournament with Quinton De Kock and Rohit Sharma opening the batting. He is followed by the likes of Surya Kumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan who had an excellent season last year and have recently made it to the Indian squads for England’s limited-overs series.

Mumbai Indians have a very strong middle order comprising Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, and Kieron Pollard who are some of the best finishers in the game. They can rip any bowling department apart and are very destructive in the death overs.

2. Excellent Backups

Mumbai Indians have covered their squad with excellent backups in every department. They have the likes of Saurabh Tiwary, Adithya Tare waiting in the wings as a backup for the Indian batsman while Chris Lynn will get his opportunity if De Kock misses out.

Overseas fast bowlers of Adam Milne and Marco Jansen will be the backup options for Trent Boult and Nathan Coulter Nile. James Neesham is a like-for-like replacement for Kieron Pollard which has covered all the bases. Jayant Yadav and Dhawal Kulkarni are experienced domestic bowlers who can be used in the bowling department as a backup.

1. Rohit Sharma’s Marvelous Captaincy

Rohit Sharma had led his team to five titles in eight years which is a massive achievement for any captain. His field placements and ability to handle the pressure on tough situations have been phenomenal. He has managed his troops really well and Mumbai Indians have backed him from the word go.

Rohit’s first title win came in 2013 after taking over the reins from the Australian legend Ricky Ponting and his impressive captaincy had led to talks of replacing Kohli as the captain of the Indian team with Rohit
