New Zealand pacer Mitchell McClenaghan has come out in support of his former IPL franchise, Mumbai Indians, when a Twitter user predicted that the Rohit Sharma-led outfit will finish at the bottom of the points table this season after a middling start to their tournament.

Currently, Mumbai Indians are 4th on the points table with 2 wins and 2 losses, with Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chennai Super Kings, and Delhi Capitals above them. Mitchell McClenaghan asked his fans on Twitter whether they see any changed in the top 4. To which a user opined that the 5-time champions will slide down to the bottom.

The Kiwi wasn’t accepting any statements against his former side, and shut down the troll replying, “Are you dumb?”

Mitchell McClenaghan has been part of the MI setup since 2015 and was released ahead of IPL 2021. The franchise has always put its faith in the Hastings-born seamer as they roped him as a replacement in 2018 when he went unsold at the auction and retained him for the next two seasons.
The left-arm quick was part of 4 championship victories – but didn’t play a single game last season. In 56 matches, Mitchell McClenaghan snapped 71 wickets; while his economy of 8.49 and average of 25.39 are ordinary, he has been a wicket-taking option for Rohit Sharma picking up a scalp every 17.94 deliveries.
Despite the presence of the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mitchell Johnson, and Lasith Malinga, Mitchell McClenaghan remained relevant, especially in the powerplay, at Mumbai; it was only last season where he was replaced by Trent Boult and released later.

Similar to his Twitter handle, “@Mitch_Savage”, the 34-year-old shut down another user, who said that the Kiwi couldn’t handle the prediction of MI finishing last.

He asked the user how would that be possible. The pacer continued to promise that if MI finishes at the bottom of the points table, he will auction off all his cricket gear for charity.

“Again how? I’ll auction off every item of cricket gear I have for charity if they end up last,” replied the seamer.

Speaking of the Mumbai Indians, their batting hasn’t clicked so far while their bowlers bailed them out on two occasions, while on the other two as well, it was the bowlers who kept them in the game. MI will take on the woeful Punjab Kings, who have lost 3 of their 4 matches, on Friday in what would be both’s last match in Chennai.
