IPL 2021: Axar Patel Links Up With Delhi Capitals Squad After Three Weeks In Medical Care Facility

The Delhi Capitals is further strengthened as all-rounder Axar Patel has recovered from covid-19 and has rejoined the squad on Thursday in Chennai. The left-hander had tested positive for the virus before the commencement of IPL 2021 and has spent the last three weeks in a medical care facility in Mumbai.

The franchise released a video announcing Axar Patel’s return where he is seen enjoying with the other team members in the hotel. The Gujarat-born constantly expresses his relief on being out of isolation and linking up with his teammates.

Axar Patel had initially checked into the Capitals’ team hotel on March 28 in Mumbai. While he had entered the bubble with a negative test report, he returned a positive result on the second test at the team hotel, as was said in a media release by the franchise on April 3rd. He was immediately moved to a medical facility where he was isolating in his own room.

Axar Patel back at full fitness, can play against SRH

Axar Patel is back to full fitness and also participated in his first-team training session on Friday. The Capitals, who have won 3 of their 4 matches so far in the season, will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday.

If the 27-year-old is given the green light to participate in the game, he is likely to replace Lalit Yadav and partner Ravichandran Ashwin and Amit Mishra. Rishabh Pant’s side is third on the points table and has recently defeated defending champions, Mumbai Indians.

Ahead of the IPL 2021, the southpaw had a remarkable start to his Test career. He replaced the injured Ravindra Jadeja in the Test series against England and pulverized Joe Root’s side picking up 27 wickets.

Last season he played a crucial role in the Capitals’ maiden run to an IPL final. In absence of Amit Mishra, who was ruled out in the early phase of the tournament, Axar Patel flourished in the added responsibility picking up 9 wickets at an economy of 6.41 and also providing the late finishing touch to the innings with the bat.
