Chennai Super Kings will resume their IPL 2021 campaign in UAE against Mumbai Indians on Sunday. They were brilliant in all departments in the first leg of the tournament. Owing to those sensational performances, they managed to win 5 matches out of seven. They currently find themselves at number two position on the points table.
They played their last game against Mumbai Indians at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium on 1st May 2021. Despite posting a mammoth 218-run total, they lost the game by 4 wickets. Ahead of the second half of the tournament, they will, once again, be facing Mumbai Indians on 19th September 2021. The match, however, will be played in Dubai Cricket Stadium.
Looking at the dimensions of the ground and the nature of the surface, it will be interesting to see what their playing 11 be for the high-octane clash. CSK aren’t known for making too many changes, however, due to player unavailability and injury concerns, we might see a few changes to their playing XI.
Here’s a look at our CSK’s predicted playing XI for the 30th match of IPL 2021 between CSK and MI:
IIPL 2021: CSK vs MI- Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Predicted Playing XI Against Mumbai Indians (MI)
Faf du Plessis/ Robin Uthappa
Faf du Plessis is currently nursing a groin injury that he picked up while playing for Saint Lucia Kings in the recently concluded CPL 2021. Due to the injury, he also missed the team’s last few games. As of now, there hasn’t been an update on his injury.
Faf Du Plessis was the best batsman for CSK in the first leg of the tournament. His unavailability could come as a big blow. There have also been reports that Robin Uthappa might make his CSK debut if Du Plessis doesn’t get fit on time.
Ruturaj Gaekwad
Ruturaj Gaekwad’s performances have been solid this season if not sensational. The CSK opener has made a great opening pair with Faf du Plessis. In 7 matches, he has managed to score 196 runs at an average of 36.36. For CSK to excel in the remainder of the season, his role is going to be crucial at the top of the order.
Moeen Ali
Management’s decision to send Moeen Ali at number three has reaped massive rewards. Ali has been responsible for capitalizing on the starts given by the openers. He has played numerous notable cameos at number three and with a healthy strike rate. Moeen Ali has 206 runs to his name in 6 matches at an average of 157.25.
Suresh Raina
Probably for the first time in his IPL career, Suresh Raina has been told to give up on his number three position. He has batted at number four this season but hasn’t been that effective. The teams have targeted him with bouncers consistently. He announced himself in IPL 2021 in a great fashion with a 36-ball 54, however, the southpaw has struggled to hit the straps since.
Ambati Rayudu
Despite not playing any international or domestic cricket for a couple of years, Ambati Rayudu showed great form in the first half of the tournament. He ensured that CSK’s don’t fall in the middle and death overs. Ambati Rayudu has managed to give the late flourish the team needed this year. In the last game against MI, Rayudu produced a sensational 27-ball 72, which was among the best knock of his IPL career.
MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni’s presence has, unarguably, played a massive role in CSK’s comeback this season. However, his performance with the bat is something to ponder. In 7 games, he has managed to score 37 runs with the bat. IPL 2021 edition might well turn out to be his last one if he couldn’t make good returns with the bat in the second half of the tournament.
Ravindra Jadeja
More than his bowling, Jadeja made headlines in IPL 2021 due to his batting exploits. Jadeja was absolutely brilliant in the death overs. There is no denying that Ravindra Jadeja has improved by leaps and bounds as far as his batting is concerned. In the first half of the tournament, he scored 131 runs in 7 matches at an astonishing strike rate of 161.72.
Dwayne Bravo
Owing to the Covid-19 protocols, Sam Curran won’t be available for the first match of the second leg against MI. In his absence, Dwayne Bravo is certain to get a spot in the playing XI. Bravo didn’t bowl in the final few matches for St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the CPL 2021. It remains to be seen if he will roll his arms in the match or will just play as a pure batsman.
Deepak Chahar
Deepak Chahar has been an integral part of CSK for many years now. He was brilliant in the power play overs in the India leg of the tournament. In 7 matches, he managed to pick 8 wickets at an average of 24.12.
Shardul Thakur
Shardul Thakur, so far, has had a pretty ordinary season for CSK in the IPL. He didn’t make great returns and bowled at an economy of close to 10. In 7 games, he managed only 5 wickets. Thakur would look to make amends in the remaining half of the tournament.
Josh Hazlewood
Josh Hazlewood will be available for CSK in the second leg of IPL 2021. He made himself unavailable during the first leg of IPL 2021 due to personal reasons. His return to the team is likely to come as a big boost. He should make it into the playing XI for the opening encounter against MI.
