Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has opined that the skipper of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Eoin Morgan might return to his best form in the Eliminator of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) tonight at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Eoin Morgan-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) witnessed an amazing turnaround in the UAE leg of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. They successfully registered a slot in the playoffs with 14 points under their belt.
Although Morgan didn’t score runs, the Indian batting core of Shubman Gill, Venkatesh Iyer, Rahul Tripathi and Nitish Rana showed good form.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra stated Andre Russell might return to the playing XI in the Eliminator match against RCB and replace Shakib Al Hasan, despite Morgan being the “weakest link” in the team. However, he further acknowledged that the England captain is too good a player to continue failing for a longer period. Aakash Chopra asserted:
“Russell could be available. He’s a big player and in Sharjah, he’s a game-changer. If he returns, then who will go out? The weakest link is the captain, but will you drop Shakib? There’s no other option… Morgan’s bat should do the talking… he will score runs eventually because he’s too good a player to continue failing for such a long time, maybe this is the game.”
In The First Half KKR Didn’t Do Anything – Aakash Chopra
The cricketer-turned-commentator further added that the first half of IPL 2021 was a fragile one for KKR as they won only 2 out of 7 games, but with the help of some key players team has witnessed a “stellar” turnaround. Aakash Chopra stated:
“In the first half, they didn’t do anything. It felt like they weren’t just getting anything right. They won, what, two matches? And the turnaround after that, whether it’s Venkatesh Iyer, Nitish Rana, Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, Varun Chakravarthy, Shivam Mavi towards the end or Lockie Ferguson in between, it’s been a stellar turnaround. You won’t see a better turnaround this season.”
