Cricket experts Ian Bishop and Gautam Gambhir have voted for the Delhi pacer Avesh Khan ahead of the purple cap holder Harshal Patel in terms of winning the India cap. Avesh and Harshal have been outstanding so far in IPL 2021, and both are uncapped players, which shows the rise in the Indian fast bowling circuit.

Harshal Patel broke the record for the most number of wickets in an IPL season by an Indian bowler, and still, he has some games to go. On the other side, Avesh Khan has been sprinting in and bowling the new ball at a good pace. Also, Avesh has been brilliant with his yorkers at the death overs.

The Greater Upside Belongs To Avesh Khan – Ian Bishop

Ian Bishop clearly picked Avesh over Harshal Patel for his ability to bowl in different phases of the innings and explained the pace that Avesh can hurry the batsmen with. He added that Harshal is more of a bowler who can create breakthroughs when the batsmen goes hard at him.

“Avesh Khan can bowl across different phases of the innings with great impact. He can bowl with the new ball, nip it in, he can bowl in the middle and hustle you with pace. Harshal is slightly different, depends more on batsmen coming at him. So, you can compartmentalize them in different packages. The greater upside belongs to Avesh Khan if he can continue on the trend,” Ian Bishop told

Gautam Gambhir Feels Avesh Has The Skillsets To Excel for India

Gautam Gambhir mentioned the variety that Avesh brings into the side with his pace and the yorkers he can bowl suddenly. He picked Avesh over Harshal Patel for India and reckoned him as the standout bowler of the tournament.

Avesh Khan can bowl at different situations of the game. He is bowling alongside the likes of Rabada and Nortje and he has not looked any less than them, and they are world class bowlers. He can bowl over 140, I still remember the yorker he bowled to Pandya at Sharjah, so the skillset is there. So, Avesh Khan is closer and I will probably pick Avesh Khan before, he has been the stand-alone bowler in this tournament,” Gambhir added.

Avesh Khan has picked up 22 wickets in the tournament so far, while Harshal is leading the race with 29 wickets already.
