Former Indian Cricketer Aakash Chopra is disappointed with Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant’s batting approach in the last couple of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 games.
In his last match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Rishabh Pant got out after smashing 15 runs. He tried to play a slog sweep against Ravindra Jadeja and only managed to top edge the ball to lose his wicket.
Meanwhile, Discussing the Delhi Capitals (DC) vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK) encounter on his YouTube channel Aakash Chopra expressed his dissatisfaction with the batting approach of Rishabh Pant. He stated:
“The way he was playing in the last match as well against Mumbai and the way he was playing in this match, I am personally feeling not very happy. He is batting in some other fashion.”
Cricketer-turned-commentator also criticised Pant for playing big shots early on in the innings. Chopra said:
“What is he wanting to do, he is probably trying to send the ball to the moon or is trying to show the stars because only the big shots on every delivery.”
You Are The Captain, Your Job Is To Make Your Team Win – Aakash Chopra
Former Indian cricketer also highlighted that Pant had just survived getting stumped off and he went for playing big shot despite the team being in a stable position.
“The over in which he got out, he was about to get stumped earlier and then ultimately got out playing a big shot. You needed less than run-a-ball when you got out and there is no issue of the net run rate as well.“
Meanwhile, Chopra further stated that Pant is the leader of the side and he needs to play responsibly. Aakash Chopra stated:
“You are a big player, you are the captain, your job is to make your team win but if you leave them in the middle, how will you remain the X-factor? He has to look inwards.”.
