Former Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt believes that opening batsman Venkatesh Iyer is the find of the season for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.

Eoin Morgan-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had a very poor run in the first phase of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. As they lost five out of their first seven matches and were placed in the bottom half of the table. However, KKR made a strong comeback in the second half and were able to make it into the final of the tournament.

Meanwhile, In the final, they faced MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and lost the battle. However, one name that many experts believe was one of the main reasons behind Kolkata Knight Riders’ stellar turnaround in the UAE leg of IPL 2021 was opening batsman, Venkatesh Iyer.

Iyer managed to score 370 runs in 10 games at an average of 41.11 and strike rate of 128.47. The 26-year-old also smashed 4 half-centuries for Knight Riders (KKR).

While reviewing the final of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on his YouTube channel, Salman Butt asserted:

If you have a look at KKR’s openers (while comparing them to their CSK counterparts), they batted outstandingly well. Gill was on the slower side but Venkatesh Iyer batted so beautifully. I reckon he is the find of the season for KKR and he is also one of the finds of IPL,” reasoned Butt.

Salman Butt further added that despite playing his first final Iyer was able to smash a marvellous half-century. He stated:

“It was his first final, it was a pressure match and it was a big chase, and yet he scored a fifty and batted very well.”
